If you own mineral rights, you've probably run into a lot of confusing offers or companies that seem more interested in closing fast than explaining anything. Momentum Minerals was built to be the opposite of that. We're a mineral rights and royalties acquisition company working with owners across the country, and this page will give you a clear picture of who we are and how we work.
Momentum Minerals was founded in 2017 as a royalties acquisition portfolio company under Apollo Global Management, growing out of a platform our co-founders, James Elder and Kevin Lorenzen, first established in 2014. Today, we acquire and manage mineral, royalty, and overriding royalty interests in states including Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, New Mexico, Wyoming, Louisiana, and Colorado. Our work is concentrated in the Permian, Williston, and Haynesville basins, three of the most active regions in the country. Our partnership with Apollo gives us the capital to move quickly on transactions of any size, so mineral owners aren't left waiting.
Plenty of people end up owning mineral rights without ever meaning to. A relative passes them down, or they show up in a probate filing, and suddenly they have to make a decision with very little context. Our mission is to fill in that gap with real expertise and a straightforward process. We'd rather take the time to explain how we value an interest than rush someone into signing something they don't fully understand.
Every mineral portfolio is different, so we don't run people through a one-size-fits-all script. What stays consistent is how our team treats owners: with transparency and without pressure to decide on the spot.
When you request an offer, our team reviews the specifics of your interest before putting a number together. That typically includes:
We're available to answer questions at any point in that process, and there's no pressure to respond before you're ready.
Because we manage interests directly rather than flipping them, our offers reflect what we're actually willing to pay to hold a position long term. We look at recent nearby well activity, how comparable tracts have traded, and what current production trends suggest for future royalty income. If a number comes in lower than an owner expected, we'll explain the reasoning instead of just moving on.
Since 2017, Momentum has grown to more than 50,000 net royalty acres across our acquisition platforms, and we've completed significant divestitures, including a sale of Permian Basin interests to Sitio Royalties and a multi-basin sale spanning the Williston, Haynesville, and Eagle Ford to Haymaker Minerals & Royalties. That track record comes from years of focused work in a small number of basins rather than spreading thin across the entire country.
Basin-level knowledge changes how we value a tract. A property near active permits in the Permian gets treated very differently than one in a quieter part of the Williston, and our team tracks that distinction closely rather than relying on outdated averages.
Momentum is led by CEO James Elder, CFO Josh Davis, and CAO Sarita Schank, along with a team that's been building this platform since its earliest days within Apollo. Mineral owners work with real people on our team, not a call center, and that's intentional.
We say we're transparent, but we'd rather show it. If you ask how we arrived at a number, our team will walk through the reasoning. If new information changes an offer, we'll tell you directly rather than let you find out some other way. Trust matters more to us than closing any single deal.
Our team at Momentum Minerals is ready to walk you through what your mineral rights might be worth and what your options actually look like. We build every offer on real data and years of basin-specific experience, backed by the resources to close quickly once you're ready. Reach out today and see what a straightforward conversation about your mineral rights actually feels like.
